Holmes & Vincent lead focused Panthers

John Carroll vs. SFA Boys Varsity (Home)
December 14, 2008

PANTHERS DOWN JOHN CARROLL BY 18

In a much anticipated game by the local basketball purists, the Panthers came out with intensity and played their best game since their opening win over Friendship Academy.

Donte Holmes was on fire in the first half, scoring 13 of his 20 points and getting four steals, five assists and five rebounds. That was a half! Terrell Vinson led all scorers with 24 points and added 9 boards. He didn’t play most of the first half because of two quick fouls but the team took up the slack.

This is an excellent win for us and shows what we can do when we play with defensive intensity.

The H-Factor (Hawkes, Hutchins, & Harmon) stops Mercy

Mercy vs. SFA Girls (Home)
December 12, 2008

LADY PANTHERS DEFEAT MERCY BY 14

The Lady Panthers started slow as they only led by two at the end of the first quarter. Breezy Hutchins came to life in the second quarter scoring 10 of her 12 points and the lead went to 15. We led by 18 at the end of the third quarter and finished with a 54-40 victory. Mercy is a ranked team so that was a good win.

Shatyra Hawkes (just named player of the week in the Baltimore Sun) led the team with 19 points and 5 steals followed by Tasia Bristow’s 10 points and 6 steals. Deanna Harmon led the rebounding with 7 and she had five steals also. If they keep their intensity and continue playing as a team, we could go far this year.

Graham and Calvert Hall run out of time

Calvert Hall vs. SFA Boys Varsity (Home)
December 11, 2008

PANTHER VARSITY DEFEATS CALVERT HALL BY 5

The Varsity played just well enough to win last Thursday as they outlasted a tough Calvert Hall team to win by five. Down one at the half, the team came out strong in the third quarter and went up by eleven, but Calvert Hall came storming back, led by their center, Jonathan Graham, but ran out of time at the end.

Terrell Vinson had a strong game with 21 points, and 10 boards for a double-double and Dante Holmes finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds and also added 6 steals. Wayne Sparrow had 12 points and 6 rebounds with two three pointers. Trawn Rogers hit a huge three in the last quarter to keep us in the lead. Rebounding or the lack thereof was an issue, but other than that, the team played well.

McNamara dominates in DC

Bishop McNamara vs. SFA Boys Varsity
National DC Hoops Festival Tournament

December 6, 2008

PANTHERS LOSE TO MCNAMARA IN HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS FESTIVAL

The Panthers lost their first game to Bishop McNamara in the first day of the High School Hoops Festival at Henry Wise School in Prince Georges County.

The Panthers came out cold and were in early foul trouble as an aggressive MacNamara team surged to a 32-17 lead at the half.

The Panthers made a game of it coming out strong in the third quarter, cutting the lead to six, but they could only score five points in the fourth quarter losing by 18.

Terrell Vinson led the Panthers with 13 points and 11 rebounds followed by Greg Lewis’ 8 points and 3 boards. It was a tough loss for the Panthers, but sometimes a loss is a good thing as they can grow from this and become a better team in the long run.
